Sergei Eisenstein's "Battleship Potemkin" is an emotive recreation of part of the failed 1905 Russian Revolution. It is revolutionary filmmaking (in both the political and non-political sense). However, in what ways can it be considered a documentary of an historical event? The presentation will focus on this aspect of documentary filmmaking, where so-called "real" events are recreated for different purposes.
