Saturday Series: Hip Anatomy & Function
About this Event
Harkness Center for Dance Injuries proudly offers in-person and virtual Harkness Center Saturday Series workshops for the dance community.
Our educational theme for 2026 is BODIES—A deep dive into our anatomy.
Throughout the year, our community programming will focus on functional anatomy through a biopsychosocial lens specific to anyone who identifies as a dancer.
JULY 2026 WORKSHOP
Topic: Hip Anatomy & Function
When: Saturday, July 25, 2026 at 11:30 AM EST
Format: IN PERSON
Description: Our seventh Saturday Series workshop of 2026, Hip Anatomy & Function, will be led by Harkness Center Program Manager of athletic training Lauren McIntyre, LAT, ATC.
For dancers, large ranges of motion and other unique demands may cause significant stress on the joints. In this in-person workshop, we will review the anatomy of the hip joint and explore its function throughout the lifespan of the dancer. Participants will learn key exercises for nourishing and restoring the hips as well as understanding the hips’ connection to other areas of our body, including the spine and lower limbs. Dancers of all ages, levels, and genres will come away with strategies for promoting healthy hip joints.
Instructor: Lauren McIntyre, LAT, ATC provides backstage care to Broadway shows and dance companies as well as injury prevention assessments and educational lectures to the dance community. She served as on-site certified athletic trainer for The Conservatory of Dance at Purchase College, SUNY for 15 years, and she now manages the athletic training team at Harkness Center for Dance Injuries.
