Many may not know, but Scituate is home to a vibrant Cape Verdean community that has greatly influenced our town’s culture and history.
This November 23rd, we’re excited to partner with the Scituate Sister City, Cape Verde/Santa Catarina Do Fogo Committee, for a day of cultural celebration. Enjoy live music starting at 1 PM capturing the lively Cape Verdean spirit inspired by Santa Catarina Day. Learn how to play Ouri, sample traditional Cape Verdean foods, and soak up the community pride! Plus, stay tuned for a special beer release crafted for the occasion.
What is Santa Catarina Day? For those interested in learning more about this significant day, Santa Catarina Day is a special holiday in Cape Verde that honors Saint Catherine, the patron saint of the island town of Santa Catarina on Fogo Island. Celebrated on November 25th, it’s a day full of joy, where Cape Verdeans come together with music, food, and traditional games to celebrate their culture and heritage.
