Sand Mandala Creation: Opening Ceremony

Join us for an opening ceremony to consecrate the site and begin preparations for the creation of a sand mandala at the Renée Crown Wellness Institute.

Tibetan nuns visiting from Jangchub Choling Nunnery will consecrate the site and call forth the force of goodness through chanting mantras accompanied by drums and cymbals.

The construction of the Mandala begins with the drawing of the design on base, or tek-pu. Once it is drawn, on the following days you see millions of grains of colored sand laid into the place.

This event is drop-in, and will be held in the Peace Place on Monday, December 9th, from 10:00am-12:00pm at the Crown Institute. As space is limited, please RSVP to make sure you are able to attend. The event will be primarily standing room only, with a few chairs in place for those needing an accessible option.

There will be additional opportunities throughout the week to view the sand mandala, as well as a closing ceremony on Thursday, December 12th.
