About this Event
True Patriot Love: Canada at a crossroads
Canada has long defined itself by what it is not, meaning that it is not the United States. We haven’t had a strong idea of who we are. That’s now changing. When Donald Trump began to think aloud that maybe Canada should be the 51st state, something snapped in our go-along-to-get-along natures, and we found ourselves considering whether we cease to exist as a country or we become something we’ve never been before— a truly independent nation with a firm grip on who we are and where we’re going. We’ve decided to go with option number two.
Carol Off
Journalist and author
Carol Off is the award-winning author of At a Loss for Words: Conversation in an Age of Rage, an instant number one Canadian bestseller. The book examines how key words, including freedom, democracy and truth, are being hijacked and weaponized in order to diminish liberal democracy. It is her fifth book. For 16 years, Carol was the co-host of the multi-award winning CBC radio program As It Happens where she did more than 25,000 interviews. Before that, she spent decades as a TV and radio journalist, covering stories in Canada and around the world.
