About this Event
Housing and homelessness are at the centre of conversations happening across our region - from council chambers and boardrooms to kitchen tables. Following a decade of significant progress, recent changes put it all at risk.
The Beyond the Noise speaker series, hosted by Pacifica Housing, is designed to cut through the rhetoric and get into real solutions, bringing together thought leaders, policymakers, developers, and community partners to address the hard questions about how we move forward in today's context.
This year's panels explore housing in today's financially constrained context: how do we protect the housing we have, continue building the housing communities need, and deliver the supports and services that keep people housed?
The time is right to get in a room together and talk about what's next.

Panel 1: Protect the Progress - Preserving What We Have, Building What We Need
Info: Significant progress has been made in expanding housing across BC. New programs, partnerships, and investments have helped increase supply and improve housing stability for British Columbians. While imperfect, we have learned a lot - and for the first time in years, the system is beginning to show results.
At a time when the right type of housing remains urgent, that progress is at risk. Aging affordable housing stock is deteriorating and financial pressures are dramatically slowing construction.
This panel will explore what it will take to protect existing affordable housing, reignite development momentum, and continue building the housing communities need - including how to preserve aging non-profit housing, reduce costs, improve delivery, and what role municipal, provincial, and federal governments must play.

Panel 2: When Housing Alone Isn't Enough - Who's Responsible for the Supports?
Host: Moderator: Shelley Cook, Executive Director, CSPC GV
Info: Across British Columbia, businesses, neighbours, housing providers, and police are calling for wrap-around supports to help address the homelessness crisis playing out on our streets. Housing providers are asked to respond to increasingly complex needs, often without the systems required to support long-term stability.
With the National Housing Strategy coming to an end in 2027 and BC rolling back support programs due to budgetary constraints, who is responsible for wrap-around supports? Everyone calls on three levels of government to work together, but what would that mean in practice?
This panel will explore where responsibilities rest, what has worked, and what needs to change - including what system coordination should look like, how inter-ministerial and inter-governmental collaboration could be achieved, and how the three levels of government need to work together.
