Medical Herbalists Olivia Cliff and Jude Greenan, who each have over 20 years of experience and knowledge of working alongside medicinal plants, will be co-hosting this session. On arrival, you will be welcomed into the cosy living room at Vallis Farm, where there will be tea and refreshments. After settling in by the fire, we will begin by exploring what are the main challenges we personally, and as a society, face during winter; and also how we envision, or hope, our experience of winter could be.
The main emphasis of the day is plant medicine; it's relevance and practical application. However to provide framework and context we will cover and expand upon four main pillers of health and wellbeing:
external environmental & social factors
emotional & mental health
diet & nutrition
specialised medicinal strategies spotlighting herbal medicines
There will be a short comfort break, with time to walk around the beautiful gardens at Vallis, after which we will return to the fireside where we will learn about, make and practice some simple herbal remedies and techniques applicable for specific and typical winter maladies.
We will be focusing on individual herbs, and how they interact with people, as well as exploring different types of herbal preparations and mediums. Expect to encounter herbal teas and decoctions, poultices, foot-baths and also preserved preparations such as tinctures, syrups, mels and glycerites. We will be trying things out and also making a simple cold remedy to take home for your own use.
Please bring your selves and your curiosity, a pen and notebook for your notes, slippers for inside, an empty jam jar (if you have one) and any extra snacks you may need (tea and tray bake cake are provided).
From £40 includes refreshments and a tea and syrup to take home with you.
