ADfC is pleased to be presenting a compelling new stage adaptation of Francis Ebejer’s celebrated Maltese work ‘Il-Ħadd fuq il-Bejt’ (“Sunday on the Roof”), one of the landmark plays of modern Maltese theatre.
First staged at the Teatru Manoel in the early 1970s, the work explores the emotional and social tensions of Maltese life through themes of love, class, identity, and the struggle between tradition and change. It is widely regarded as one of Ebejer’s most important dramatic achievements and a cornerstone of Maltese literature which, through a refashioning by actor Ron Briffa, will be transformed into a poignant, urgently contemporary piece.
Conceived by Artistic Director Annalisa Schembri, this project marks the return to the performance stage of Ron Briffa, who will be complemented by a few other dedicated artists in the adaptation of this rich script.
By blending literature, performance, and contemporary theatrical craft, the adaptation pays tribute to Francis Ebejer’s enduring legacy in a fresh and emotionally resonant format on a rooftop.
Rooftop Series 2026 is supported by Visit Malta, APS Bank, MAPFRE and PWC.
A sensory-friendly room will be available on-site throughout the event.
Guests are invited to be seated by 19:15
