Workshop Description

Join Hilma's Ghost at Pen + Brush during the powerful Lion's Gate portal (8/8), an annual astrological alignment associated with courage, transformation, abundance, and embodied purpose. Traditionally understood as a time when the Sun in Leo aligns with the star Sirius and the Orion constellation, Lion's Gate is believed to amplify intuition, creative power, and the manifestation of one's highest path. It is an invitation to step fully into your voice, claim your power, and align your actions with collective healing and liberation.

In this immersive workshop, Hilma's Ghost will guide participants through a Lion's Gate ritual designed to open pathways of intention, courage, and renewal. Together we will engage in tarot as a practice of self-inquiry and collective wisdom, exploring the cards as tools for empowerment, political imagination, and liberation. Participants will also create and activate a spell rooted in personal intention and collective justice, drawing upon contemporary witchcraft traditions that honor resilience, interdependence, and transformative change.

Throughout the workshop, we will reflect on the historical relationship between witchcraft, feminist resistance, queer liberation, and the reclamation of marginalized knowledge. Rather than viewing magic as an escape from the world, we approach ritual as a practice of deep attention—one that strengthens intuition, fosters community, and helps us imagine new futures.

Whether you are new to tarot and spellcraft or have an established spiritual practice, this workshop offers an inclusive and welcoming space to harness the expansive energy of Lion's Gate. Together, we will cultivate clarity, courage, and collective intention, leaving with practical ritual tools and renewed inspiration to embody our most authentic selves while contributing to a more just and compassionate world.

Hilma's Ghost is a feminist artist collective co-founded by artists and educators Dannielle Tegeder and Sharmistha Ray that fuses contemporary art with modern spirituality through forms of divination and ritual. Named after the Swedish artist and mystic, Hilma af Klint, the collective's work is a critique of gendered power structures, providing a critical and revolutionary platform for rethinking gender in the arts while recovering feminist histories as its ballast for critique.
