Right to Read: A Community Read - Out
Advertisement
Join us during Banned Books Week for an evening celebrating books, reading, and our fundamental freedom to choose what we read.
This event is registered as part of the National Coalition Against Censorship’s Right to Read Night and takes place on Let Freedom Read Day, the final day of Banned Books Week.
TAKE THE MIC
Bring a banned or challenged book that is meaningful to you and take the microphone to read a short passage. Tell us why that book matters to yo or simply let the words speak for themselves.
ADD YOUR VOICE
We'll also have a large community message board where you can share why you read, why reading is important to you, or which banned or challenged books have made an impact on your life.
We'll have cards available so you can leave a thought, a favorite book, a personal reflection, or a message about why the freedom to read matters to you.
You can read. Write. Listen. Share. Or simply show up. Because the freedom to read isn't about agreeing with every book. It's about having the freedom to encounter ideas, stories, perspectives, and experiences for ourselves and deciding what they mean to us. You don't have to agree with a book to believe someone else has the right to read it.
Let books be. Protect the freedom to read.
