Rhododendron Removal - Young Person Conservation Event (13-17)

Join us to help clear rhododendron, an invasive plant that negatively affects our woodlands. Two staff members will guide the attendees as they work together to remove the plant from key areas on site.

This event is part of a three-month series of events, each occurring on the last Sunday of the month. The sessions aim to give young people experience in conservation tasks and develop their green skills. The Smithills Estate team plans to start up a youth volunteering group in the spring, which the young people will soon be able to join. This will continue after April through 2025. All young people need to be accompanied by a supervising adult until registered as a volunteer. Accompanying adults are invited to join in the activity during their attendance.

• All young people must attend with a supervising adult for this series of 3 events.
• If you own a torch, please bring this with you.
• This event will be cancelled if there is severe weather. Please check your emails on the day before the walk and ensure you come in weather-appropriate gear.
• Due to the nature of the event, we ask that only service dogs attend.
• Please make the Woodland Trust team aware of any medical issues before the start of the event, e.g. asthma, diabetes, etc.
• Barrow Bridge car park has 20 spaces and is free.
• Barrow Bridge can have poor phone signal, please plan your route ahead of time.
