Rewilding our Neighborhoods: Native Plants and why they Matter so Urgently with Erin Staub, Director of Louisiana Wild Society.
July 28th, 5:30pm social/6:00pm presentation
The Backpacker Mandeville
3908 LA-22, Mandeville, LA 70471
Free!
Erin’s lecture will explore what classifies as a native plant, why they matter so much, and the long term ecological impact of re-wilding (aka bringing more native plants back into our green spaces). She will introduce us to some of our native species and give native alternatives to some common plants and trees so that you can make the most of the choices in your garden. She will talk about ecological diversity and why it matters, and how you can incorporate native plants into almost any style of landscape you desire.
The Louisiana Wild Society is an inclusive women-led, not-for-profit organization that believes in the importance of protecting and regenerating our planet through community engagement. Their mission is to provide education, skills, and resources for all living beings to thrive. They encourage landscape stewardship and environmental education in and around Southeast Louisiana and celebrate the diversity of ecology & individuals that Louisiana provides. By hosting plant giveaways, walking tours, and installing native plant gardens in community spaces, they seek to nourish rich ecosystems for future generations. Check out their new native plant garden at the front entrance of the East Baton Rouge Library's Main Branch at Goodwood & join them for expanding the native garden there in November!
Erin is a New Orleans native with roots in Acadiana for generations. Like most of the LWS team, she is multi-passionate and has had the incredible opportunity to live & work in many places, doing many different things. She has a degree in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design, but has worked with plants in one way or another for many many years. She has lived and worked in many states around the US, as well as the south of France & she loves immersing herself in new endeavors and making beauty in the world to share with others. The LWS team combines over 30 years of experience in different aspects of native landscaping, agriculture, community gardens and equitable community spaces.
