Dusk Discovery Hike and Moth Sheet Social at Fontainebleau State Park

July 31st at Fontainebleau State Park Visitor's Center. Meet at 7:15pm, hike begins at 7:30pm. $3 entrance fee to park; the program is free.The hike will begin and end at Fontainebleau State Park's Visitor Center.
Witness the natural world transition from day into night!
Join Pelican Park's Naturalist Alex Landry as he leads a hike through the woods as day turns to night. We'll get a chance to observe crepuscular (active around dawn and dusk) critters during their most active time. We will cover approximately 1.5 miles.
After the hike, we will hold our first moth sheet social outside the Fontainebleau State Park Visitor Center! A moth sheet is a simple setup used to observe moths and other nocturnal insects. It involves hanging a white sheet and shining a bright light on it, which attracts a diversity of insects, providing a surface for them to land on and be viewed. We will get an up close and personal view of some of Louisiana’s most magnificent insects! In addition to the moth sheet, there will be cold drinks and light snacks.
If you're unable to make the hike, you can still attend the Moth Sheet Social! Pelican Park Nature Club volunteers Bill Wimley and Nate Bonnett will set up the moth sheets 7:30pm and will tend to them while the group hikes.
Please bring a flashlight or head lamp and water. The hike will begin during daylight, but it will be dark by the time we return. There will be a small number of flashlights and headlamps available for loan.
Long pants and long sleeves are recommended. Close toed shoes are required- please no sandals! No children under 5, please. Children are required to be with their parent/guardian at all times.
