Forge Theater: Collaborative Studio Space | Ann Arbor, MI
The theme for March is "Protest Theatre 101." From the blowup frog suits seen at No Kings to the serious comedy of Billionaires for Bush to the antics of the Clandestine Insurgent Rebel Clown Army, creativity and performativity have played a crucial role in promoting change. In addition to embodied, creative exercises introducing techniques like carnival protest, invisible theatre, and creative disruption, space will be made for critical discussion around purposeful messaging, positionality, and thoughtful consideration of risk.
No charge to attend. RSVP here: https://www.forgetheatercollaborative.com/event-details/revolutionary-theatre-makers-playground-1
About this month's facilitator: Cydney Marie, co-founder of BSR, is a longtime theatre maker, circus freak, disruptor, and all-around troublemaker. Having been active in Southeast Michigan's theatre community for nearly 15 years, Cydney focuses on original works and applied theatre and has experience with a variety of styles, such as physical theatre, devising, clowning, neofuturism, playback theatre, and Theatre of the Oppressed. In addition to holding a BA in drama from U of M, she completed a year of intensive training in devising and physical theatre at Dell'arte International, a certificate in devising for social justice with Fringe Benefits Theatre, and is currently completing a Master's in Social Work at U of M with a concentration in community change. She's facilitated for groups of all ages in settings ranging from churches to schools to supportive housing to prisons and juvenile detention centers. Cydney also previously served for 3 years on the planning board for Ypsi Pride, co-hosts the bi-weekly gathering Beers with Queers, and engages in organizing around abolition and Disability Justice. When she's not haunting theatres, Cydney enjoys dabbling in various dance styles and circus arts, teaching yoga, exploring graveyards, and arguing with her cat.
