About this Event

Retracing the Prophetic Journey: Reflections on the Hijrah Walk from Makkah to Madinah

Blessed with the opportunity to be part of a small group of walkers retracing the Prophetic Hijrah route from Makkah to Medina in Rajab just gone (January 2026), Suhaiymah will share insights into what the walkers experienced, felt and saw over the one-week trek through unmarked desert and mountains. Only a handful of guides know this rare route and have worked with world-leading scholars to confirm and refine it. Whilst "the hijrah" was made by many, this particular route was only taken by The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his closest companion, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him.In a religion that tells us to "follow him ﷺ" what does it mean to attempt to literally walk in the footsteps of The Beloved of Allah ﷺ? Suhaiymah will share her personal reflections of walking the route, and especially the experience of walking with world-leading scholar and great-great-great grandson of The Prophet ﷺ - Habib Kazim al-Saqqaf.

About Our Speaker

Suhaiymah Manzoor-Khan is a writer, workshop facilitator and educator whose work explores the power of words - what they conceal, reveal, and make possible. Writing across poetry, essays, and theatre, she engages with race, history, Islamophobia, and the narratives shaping ideas of belonging and freedom. She enjoys creating rooted in care, honesty, and collective imagination. Her books include Postcolonial Banter (2019), Tangled in Terror: Uprooting Islamophobia (2022), and Seeing for Ourselves: And Even Stranger Possibilities (2023). Since her widely viewed poem This Is Not a Humanising Poem (2017), she has continued to write for page and stage, with her debut play, Peanut Butter and Blueberries, premiering in London in 2024. She is also co-founder of The Nejma Collective, a group working in solidarity with Muslims affected by incarceration.

Please note, the talk will take place at the new Rumi's Cave building, Craven Park Road, next door to Rumi's Kitchen.
