Reimagining Market Street Bike Tour

Join us for a bike ride down Market Street to visualize Studio-MLA's winning proposal from last year's Market Street Reimagined design competition sponsored by the Urban Land Institute, Civic Joy Fund, and supported by Mayor Daniel Lurie.

Participants are invited to meet at Fox Plaza (Larkin Street and Market Street) for a flat, all-ages-and-abilities bike ride down Market Street to the Ferry Building. Along the ride, we will make a few stops to hear from Studio-MLA’s designers and visualize their award-winning proposal firsthand — recognized with the Neighborhood Placemaking & Connectivity Award out of more than 170 entries.

The proposal, conceived in collaboration with Multistudio, Systematica, and VibeMap reimagines Market Street as San Francisco’s Living Heart. “Emotionally resonant, ecologically grounded and socially magnetic… With private cars removed and people-first mobility prioritised, the street slows to a human scale. Designed for all ages and abilities, Market welcomes walking, biking and rolling as joyful, everyday experiences.” Designers from Studio-MLA will bring their proposal to life in our imaginations, illuminating the team’s vision for four zones — Civic Culture, Arts + Discovery, Innovation + Collaboration, and Leisure + Well-Being — that center the human experience while affirming that doing so supports an active, thriving Market Street.

This event is hosted by the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and Studio-MLA.

I am aware of the risk of bicycling and otherwise participating in this event and voluntarily assume such risk, for myself and for any minor(s) under my care. In consideration of being permitted to participate in this event:

1) I release myself, my heirs, and personal representatives, any participating minor(s) under my care and their heirs and representatives, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and the respective directors, officers, volunteers, and staff ("Indemnities") from any claim, liability, demand, action, and cause of action whatsoever (collectively, "Claim") arising out of or relating to any loss, damage, or injury (collectively, "Loss") to myself, any participating minor(s) under my care, or my property that I may sustain in conjunction with, or arising out of, this event.

2) I agree that in the event that I am injured, or any participating minor(s) under my care are injured, as a result of participation in the above named activity, including transportation to and from the activity, whether or not caused by negligence (active or passive) of SF Bicycle Coalition or any of its employees, Board of Directors or volunteers, recourse for the payment of any resulting hospital, medical or related costs and expenses will first be had against any accident, medical or hospital insurance, or any available benefit plan of mine or of my partner, or of the legal guardian of the minor.

3) For any participating minor, I (as parent or guardian) agree to indemnify and hold harmless each Indemnity against any Claim or Loss said minor may sustain in connection with or arising out of, this event and against legal or other expenses incurred by any Indemnity in connection with defending any Claim by on behalf of said minor in any such Loss.

4) I consent to emergency medical treatment, at my expense, if I am, or any participating minor(s) under my care are injured.

5) I shall obey all traffic laws and practice bicycle safety in bicycling.

6) I agree to cooperate and conform to the directions and instructions of SF Bicycle Coalition instructors, staff and volunteers responsible for the above named activity. The SF Bicycle Coalition encourages the use of helmets and any other necessary safety equipment, and they are required for minors to participate; adults may or may not wear helmets at their own discretion and risk.

7) I agree that the SF Bicycle Coalition can take and use pictures of me or any participating minor(s) under my care for Newsletters, Promotional Purposes and Flyers.

8) I hereby agree that SF Bicycle Coalition, its Board of Directors, Officers, Staff and Volunteers are hereby relieved of all liability that may arise, directly or indirectly, now or in the future, by reason of any injury, damage, loss, or expense incurred in connection with my participation, or the participation of any minor(s) under my care, in the Event, including that caused solely or in part by the fault (including but not limited to negligence, gross negligence, and/or recklessness) of the above-named parties. This Release and Waiver of Liability shall be binding on my heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns from now and at any time in the future.
