One of the goals of Great Peninsula Conservancy’s (GPC) stewardship program is to improve the ecological integrity and health of GPC’s forestlands by increasing forest structure and species diversity. Implementing practices to improve forest health seems appropriate given the dramatic decline in populations of many North American landbirds. GPC stewardship director, Adrian Wolf, will present a program to improve the long-term survival of Western Washington forest birds by implementing state of the art habitat improvement practices, initiating acoustic monitoring of bird responses to these conservation practices, and publicly sharing findings and replicable protocols through outreach and communications. The Listen Up program is a collaboration of three land trusts, four conservation and tribal organizations, and is supported by Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative. Adrian and the Listen Up program were recently featured in New York Times’ “50 States and 50 Fixes” series and on NPR’s “All Things Considered”.

Our Speaker:

Adrian Wolf joined Great Peninsula Conservancy’s (GPC), based in Bremerton, WA, in March 2021 and is committed to maintaining and improving the ecological integrity of natural ecosystems. He has over 30 years of professional experience working with threatened and endangered habitats, and the species that depend on them. Adrian obtained his master’s degree from The Evergreen State College where his research work focused on bird use of canopy epiphytes in a Pacific Northwest old-growth coniferous forest. He has extensive experience both monitoring and handling birds through ecological research studies.
