Reading Fluency in KS3 Conference
About this Event
The Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), describe reading fluency as “reading with accuracy (reading words correctly), automaticity (reading words at an appropriate speed without great effort) and prosody (appropriate stress and intonation). While most pupils enter secondary school as fluent and skilled readers who can cope with the volume and complexity of reading within the KS3 curriculum, many pupils, particularly those who did not reach the expected standard at the end of KS2, may need additional support in KS3.

This half day conference will explore the research underpinning the successful teaching of fluent reading and how reading impacts on oracy, spelling, vocabulary and comprehension development. The session will provide a wealth of practical strategies and inclusive reading practices which can be woven into all KS3 lessons.
About Sarah Green:
Sarah is a former Literacy Content Specialist for the Education Endowment Foundation and continues to work with them and their Research School Network. Alongside this national role, Sarah is Trust Director for Literacy working across mainstream and special secondary schools within Prospere Learning Trust in
Manchester. She is a Voice21 National Oracy Leader, an Evidence Lead in Education, and a Teacher Development Trust Associate. In addition to this, Sarah works as an independent educational consultant, The Literacy Coach, providing keynote speaking, training, leadership coaching and literacy reviews for schools and trusts in the UK and internationally.
