Pysanky: Passing It On Workshop

Join a fun, hands-on experience creating traditional Ukrainian pysanky eggs! Whether you're a beginner or just curious, these workshops are all about passing on the beautiful, ancient art of pysanky decoration. Come ready to learn, laugh, and create your own stunning design to cherish!

A series of three identical workshops will be held at the Libuse Branch of the Rapides Parish Library, led by Frieda Tuma of the Louisiana Czech Heritage Association and Nicole Holcombe. The experience is designed for ages 10–Adult and teens and preteens are especially welcome! All materials will be provided.

Pysanky-making predates Christianity by a thousand years. Later adopted by Slavic groups in Eastern Europe, the artform became a treasured Lenten and Easter activity. The Passing It On workshops are designed to keep this ancient tradition alive for current and future generations. The effort is supported by the Louisiana Folklore Society, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism Division of the Arts.

To allow for the greatest participation, each workshop is waitlisted and individuals are limited to attending only one workshop in the series. Space is limited, and preregistration is required. The waitlist for each month's workshop will open on the 14th of that month.
