Property Research 101

Have you been curious about the history of your home? When was it built? Who lived there? Or you have wondered if there is a historic picture of your house? While simple questions, figuring out where to start can be intimidating, especially when many resources that provide these answers are not online.
To learn more about how to start researching your home and/or property, sign up for the “Property Research 101” class at the DeKalb County History Center on Saturday, September 19.
The Joiner History Room’s Archival and Collection specialist, Rob Glover, along with volunteer Russ Johnson, will explore how to begin researching property in DeKalb County. They will talk about online resources but show the wealth of information available in the History Center’s archives. This type of research is truly detective work!
The class will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at the DeKalb County History Center, 1730 N. Main Street in Sycamore. The cost is $5 per person and handouts will be provided. The class size is limited to 20, and registration is required.
