PPS's Festival of Architecture & Design: That Happened on Dudley Street?

The JCP Collective leads this bus tour of South Providence’s past, present and future. Tour guides include Yaimani and Yadira Rivera, South Providence residents and co-leads of the Jacqueline Clements Park Collective (JCP), a resident-led volunteer neighborhood organization focused on community advocacy, safety, and local programming that honors the rich history and contributions of residents. The morning includes conversation about the history of South Providence’s anchor community organizations and sites (some of them demolished), community organizing over the last 50+ years, and neighborhood resilience.

Stops on the tour include the office of Stop Wasting Abandoned Properties, Inc. (SWAP)/Jacqueline Clements Park, Southside Community Land Trust, Davey Lopes Recreation Center, the Urban League headquarters site/Martin Luther King, Jr. Shopping Center, the site of the former Flynn School (now The Flynn, a mixed-use affordable housing complex), Project Weber Renew, Borinquen Street, the Mutual Aid Altar, and the Resistance Houses, which were listed at the top of PPS’s Most Endangered Places List of 2026.

The tour covers a route of about 2.5 miles; we will get out at the site of the Resistance Houses to walk around and will walk between several locations, adding up to about 1 mile of walking. Please wear comfortable shoes and bring water if needed. The shuttle does not have a toilet. This tour runs twice: on October 10 and October 24.
