About this Event

Join us for Positioning for the Future: How External Forces Influence Trade on Tuesday 24 March, where we’ll share the latest national and regional economic insights, and unpack how global forces are shaping New Zealand’s trade, investment, and economic resilience.

Delivered by Te Puna Umanga Venture Taranaki, the regional development agency, this is an opportunity to hear first-hand how our region is tracking, explore the trends shaping our economy, and consider how business can adapt and grow in a more uncertain global environment.

This event will also highlight the external pressures influencing regional prosperity, such as geopolitical change, supply chain disruption, and shifting trade relationships, and what they mean for Taranaki businesses and communities.

Plus, hear from guest speaker Josh Wineera, a national security and defence expert and founder of Latent Services, with experience in military diplomacy. A former Massey University defence and security studies lecturer and retired Lieutenant Colonel, Josh is currently working with Venture Taranaki to progress the region’s new collaborative platform, the Taranaki Alliance.

This event will include:

  • A regional economic update with the latest data and analysis for Taranaki.
  • A keynote from Josh Wineera on how global security, geopolitics, and strategic competition are influencing trade, economic stability, and regional decision-making.
  • A panel discussion exploring what external forces and global shifts mean in practice for Taranaki businesses, sectors, and future opportunities.
  • A second panel discussion on the forming of Taranaki Alliance, a new collaborative regional platform designed to secure complex, large-scale new industry and infrastructure projects, while retaining our region’s highly skilled workforce.

This event is free to attend but spaces are limited. Registrations are essential.

Light refreshments will be provided. Please note this event is an in-person event only.
