Come sit. South Florida's home for Black writers — craft, community, and honest feedback, every session.
About this Event

Pull up a chair. This is The Porch.

Porch Talks is our regular gathering for Black writers in South Florida who want a real place to grow their craft — not a class, not a critique group that tears you down, but a porch. A place where you show up, get a little craft wisdom, write alongside people who get it, and leave with something on the page you didn't have when you walked in.

What happens on The Porch:

  • A short, practical craft lesson — story structure, voice, revision, whatever the season calls for
  • Guided writing time, right there in the room
  • A chance to read a page out loud and get feedback that's honest and kind
  • Real community — writers who'll check on your manuscript and your life

Who this is for:
Black writers of every level and every genre — memoir, fiction, poetry, essays, the book you've been carrying around for years. If you've got a story and you're tired of sitting on it alone, this is your porch too.

What to bring:
A notebook or laptop, something you're working on (or just an idea), and yourself. No experience required. No manuscript required.

Space is intentionally small so everyone gets heard — grab your seat early.

The Porch Writers Society is a community gathering hosted by Tresa Chambers of Tenth Muse Enterprises. Writers who want to go deeper — full manuscript coaching, cohort programs, or 1:1 support — can ask about The Writing Room after any session.
