Join us at Subtext Books on Thursday, September 3rd from 7 - 8 PM to hear from poet Patrick Hueller.

At a time when headlines often focus on what's going wrong in schools—students falling behind, the rise of AI, declining reading habits, teacher burnout, and educators leaving the profession—Hueller's collection raises an equally urgent question: What still makes teaching, reading, students, and school itself meaningful? Drawing on his experience in the classroom, Hueller writes with humor, honesty, and care about the emotional life of teaching. This collection of poems offers something deeply needed: attention, understanding, and perhaps a few poetic ways forward. The evening will include a short talk, poetry reading, audience Q&A, and book signing.

Falling, in Love with Teaching, by veteran high school English teacher Patrick Hueller, is necessary reading for all those who care about the state of education. Patrick Hueller lives, writes, and teaches in Minnesota. He is the author of several books, many of them aimed at getting kids pumped about reading. These books have been selected for the American Library Association Rainbow Award and School Library Journal’s “Accessible Reads for Struggling and Reluctant Readers.” He has a forthcoming collection of short stories, Fake Tattoos (Cornerstone Press).
