On Wednesday 12 August 2026, Cornwall will take centre stage as one of the best places in the UK to witness a partial solar eclipse which will see around 95% of the Sun covered by the Moon.
Many locals will remember the viewing the unforgettable total eclipse of 11 August 1999 at Carn Gloose just outside of St Just. Twenty-seven years (and one day) later… Cornwall is once again preparing for one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles this time a partial solar eclipse.
So let’s meet up at Carn Gloose for a picnic and take the opportunity to view this natural moment of wonder together.
The partial eclipse starts from 6.18pm so suggest getting to Carn Gloose a bit earlier to secure your picnic space and vantage point.
