The first in-person PHITS Advanced Tutorial in North America will be held at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) on the campus of Michigan State University (MSU) in East Lansing, MI USA. Tutorial Information: Registration Open: July 10, 2024 Registration Deadline: August 15, 2024 Tutorial Dates: September 16 to September 20, 2024 Language of Instruction: English Eligibility for Participation: Experience in using PHITS or have completed the Beginners Course PHITS (Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System) is a general-purpose Monte Carlo particle transport simulation code developed under collaboration between the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) and several institutes from around the world. PHITS can deal with the transport of nearly all particles over wide energy ranges, using several nuclear reaction models and nuclear data libraries. It supports research in the fields of accelerator technology, radiotherapy, space radiation, and many others related to particle and heavy ion transport phenomena. The Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB) is a world-leading, next-generation rare isotope beam facility whose mission is to advance science by supporting research in a broad range of areas: properties of nuclei, astrophysical processes, tests of fundamental symmetries, and societal applications and benefits. We are pleased to host the first in-person PHITS tutorial held in North America to build knowledge and experience around a tool essential for supporting our work and community. The tutorial, presented by PHITS Experts from the Research Group for Radiation Transport Analysis, Nuclear Science and Engineering Center, and Japan Atomic Energy Agency, will cover Advanced Topics. In an effort to strengthen the community among PHITS practitioners, the program will feature, in addition to the course content, the opportunity for participants to present their work in poster format as users of PHITS. The goal is to allow participants to engage in an energetic and synergetic exchange of knowledge, enabling them to identify opportunities for collaboration to enhance their use of PHITS. If you would like to attend the course, you must have experience in using PHITS or have completed the Beginners Course. The upgrade to PHITS license is free of charge, and instructions to get the license can be found on PHITS Website. When you submit the application form, please select "Submission of application form" at this link and write "I would like to attend the in-person Advanced PHITS course at FRIB in USA, September 2024" in the message body. Please note that registration does not guarantee participation; confirmation is contingent upon receiving an approval email from FRIB. This tutorial is limited to 40 participants and operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees must have a license for the latest version of PHITS to participate. Attendees must bring a laptop PC with Windows, Mac OS, or Linux with the latest version of PHITS installed. Participation in this in-person tutorial is free. Attendees are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. No visa assistance is available for this onsite tutorial. No funding support is available for travel, lodging, or meals.
