Para Kay Nanay - For Mom (A Mother's Day Baybayin Workshop)

This Mother’s Day, we invite you to slow down and create something meaningful.

“Para Kay Nanay” is a 3-hour, hands-on workshop where participants are guided through the process of creating a personal offering through Baybayin (precolonial Filipino script), florals, and intentional art-making.

Whether for your mother, a maternal figure, your lineage, or yourself—this space is an invitation to express care through creation.

Participants will be guided through:

• A short cultural grounding + history session on Baybayin, including its use in precolonial Philippines and the role of women in literacy
• A beginner-friendly Baybayin workshop, where you’ll learn how to write your name or a short message
• Hands-on support and translation guidance from facilitators: Kaira Peña, Mar Cortez, Elyzia Finogwar
• A flower-making station, where you’ll create a small floral offering by @bubuka.ca
• An optional temporary tattoo + flash session inspired by Baybayin
• Time to assemble your final piece — a handwritten Baybayin message paired with your floral arrangement

• Your Baybayin letter / artwork
• A floral arrangement in a glass jar
• A deeper connection to Filipino language, history, and creative practice
