Paper Lantern Making with Kerry Maloney

Make a lantern AND enjoy Art Without Walls (AWOW) while you’re here!

This special Saturday session of Paper Lantern Making with Kerry Maloney will take place during our December Art Without Walls event, so you can spend the morning creating your own beautiful lantern and enjoy all the art, artists, and community fun happening at The Arts that day.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to use reed, tissue paper, and lights to create a beautiful, fully finished paper lantern of your own. This class is perfect for complete beginners as well as anyone who has made a lantern before and wants to experiment with a more elaborate design.

No experience is necessary, and all materials are provided!

Along the way, you’ll also learn how to work with reed as a structural material—a technique you can use in other creative projects long after the class is over.

✨BONUS: Your finished lantern will be perfect to carry in the Annual Winter Solstice Lantern Parade on December 21!

About the Instructor:

Kerry Maloney is, in a word, enthusiastic! After taking a paper lantern class herself, she loved it so much she simply couldn’t stop making them. She went on to create lanterns for the 2023 Under The Flower Moon art exhibit, and her current goal is to take every single art class offered by The Arts!
