About this Event

Tour description:

Guided by graffiti photographer and documentarian Antar Fierce and Assistant Teaching Professor Julia Tulke (ILA), The Painted City Tour invites guests to explore three locations across Atlanta where Style Writers and muralists have transformed public spaces with intricate, expressive works.

The tour highlights the origins of Style Writing and honors the early artists who helped shape Atlanta’s public art landscape. At the same time, participants will see how this vibrant art form continues to evolve when writers are supported, recognized, and given space to create.

A boxed lunch will be included. Please note that portions of the tour will include periods of walking outside of the bus, so participants with limited mobility should contact the organizers to discuss accommodations. All are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Locations:

TOTEM2 - The Interstate overpass at Mayson Ave NE. known affectionately as the Totem wall. World renowned local artist Totem2 (@mistertotem2) painted this wall extensively during the late 90s and early 2000s. In the most recent (2025) Atlanta Style Writers jam Totem called on an entire regiment of writers to pull off one of the largest production style murals in the city’s history. Several peripheral walls by muralist and style writers also worthy of note.

MSK – one of the longest running and famous crews in the entire Style Writing Culture met in Atlanta for the 2024 Style Writers jam and executed this 1100’ production. Prior to the MSK several local artist painted the back side of this former A&P distribution warehouse in the 1990s.

High Contrast Walls – a more recently developing art festival devoted to combining Style Writers and muralist in the same space. This is till a developing festival and look forward to more art in this area in 2026 and beyond.
