Restoration & Representation Summit

Black Male Initiative’s Restoration and Representation Summit is a transformative exposition that brings awareness to Pr*son conditions, the collateral consequences for returning citizens and how restorative practices benefit every member of society. This summit introduces restorative practices that focus on repairing harm to communities and individuals, while emphasizing a person first approach to criminal justice.

April is designated as Second Chance Month, and BMI is dedicated to empowering our communities through direct action, advocacy, and grassroots organizing. This summit will be composed of elected officials, criminal justice stakeholders, formerly incarcerated people, restorative practitioners and survivors of crime to create new and effective approaches to criminal justice in the Peach state. Independent of any system of “justice,” Restorative is a social movement and philosophy that has deep historical roots. We understand that the application of Restorative Justice varies from one geographical location to another. Therefore, this summit seeks best practices and true application of Restorative Justice within Georgia’s criminal justice system and our overall communities.

Info: An immersive and impactful compilation of videos, photos, and testimonials that displays the collateral consequences that affect all members of society and the individual troubles people face coming home post incarceration.

Info: Justice Impacted presenters Anthony Brown will offer a joint presentation detailing how Pr*son conditions and restorative programs can aid the transition from incarceration to society.

Info: Reform Alliance will give a presentation exploring how Georgia’s policies and practices are evolving toward rehabilitation and stability.

Info: A key component of Restorative Justice focuses on repairing the harm caused by wrongdoing by facilitating dialogue and collaboration between those affected, aiming to restore relationships and promote accountability. Spencer Murray of the Georgia Justice Project will speak about his organization’s initiatives to break down barriers for formerly incarcerated individuals.

Info: Atlanta is the epicenter of the debate around the trauma and harm that has been largely represented and celebrated much to our demise. Recently 21 Savage sparked a firestorm when he tweeted “F*ck the Streets.” BMI will hold this space for healthy debates on both sides of the sentiment.
