A group art show exploring connection, passion for life and an expression of a sense of self.
About this Event

'Outside the Bell Jar' is a group show where artists have been asked to respond to the theme relating to the Bell Jar metaphor in Sylvia Plath's novel. Plath uses the bell jar as a metaphor for isolation, suffocation and mental health struggles and in the novel the author explores reclaiming identity.

The artists have used a variety of medium and approaches to explore connection, passion for life and an expression of a sense of self.

We invite you to consider the connection between your own creativity and experiences of connection.

SHARP gallery was founded in a social inclusion project within South London and Maudsley NHS Trust in 2011, converting a bland conference room into a gallery space. It has exhibited the work of hundreds of artists, many of whom use mental health services. The gallery has transformed the physical environment and the experiences for staff and service users, as well as giving a platform for emerging artists to exhibit. The gallery is based in Blue Star House on Stockwell Road. The ethos of the gallery was devised by a steering group and includes the gallery being the following:
a safe space
art focused
breaking the mould
being brave
connecting and bringing people together
enabling
The gallery is open to anyone who feels art will help with their mental health.
