About this Event
From catastrophic firestorms and floods to heatwaves and prolonged droughts, Australians are experiencing extreme weather with increasing frequency. These highly disruptive, costly, and often lethal events impact ecosystems, infrastructure, food systems, and human health, placing increasing pressure on emergency services and communities. Research has a critical role to play in our response to a rapidly changing climate.
Our panel of experts will explore how scientists are improving understanding of the consequences of climate change, climate data and modelling, weather prediction and warnings, and assessments of risk. Discover what drives dangerous weather and what science can – and can’t – tell us about the future. Learn how research can guide real-world decisions, and how researchers are collaborating with governments, industries, disaster responders and diverse communities to translate evidence into preparedness and resilience.

The Science at Melbourne Conversation series is the premier public event series from the Faculty of Science. The event program seeks to share our knowledge and love of science with the wider community, engaging them in current research and empowering them to ask questions and act for a better world.
