Join Growing Empowerment and our incredible community partners for a FREE bilingual educational and hands-on transplanting workshop that helps grow fresh food for neighbors in need throughout our region.
During the first half of the workshop, Growing Empowerment founder Kim Doyle Wille will teach transplanting best practices for both indoor and outdoor growing, including:
🌿 When and how to transplant seedlings
🌿 Hardening off plants before moving outdoors
🌿 Frost protection strategies
🌿 Outdoor transplanting timing and techniques
🌿 Common transplanting mistakes to avoid
The educational presentation will be offered live from the Carbondale Branch Library, with:
🎙️ An in-room Spanish translator alongside the presenter
💻 A dedicated Zoom interpreter for virtual attendees
During the second half of the workshop, in-person participants at all four library locations will help transplant vegetable starts into larger pots. These plants will then be grown in a rented greenhouse at West Canyon Nurseries, cared for by CSU Extension Colorado Master Gardeners, and distributed FREE in mid-May to food-insecure neighbors served through Lift-Up food pantries throughout our region.
💚 Why It Matters: By participating, you are directly helping grow part of the 8,000–10,000 vegetable and herb plants being distributed this spring to local families in need.
🌱 Participant Perks:
• Each participant may take home one free plant
• Families may take home up to 3 plants total
• Free organic seeds available while supplies last
👩🌾 Hands-On Support at Every Library:
Each participating branch will have:
✔️ At least one Colorado Master Gardener
✔️ At least one bilingual assistant/interpreter
