Opening THINKING THE ARCHIPELAGO | Group exhibition during GLUE Amsterdam
About this Event
We proudly present THINKING THE ARCHIPELAGO
A GLUE exhibition by Black Childish, Felt Atelier, Ike Melchizedek, Niño Divino, OHIM and Yara Forster.
THINKING THE ARCHIPELAGO brings together distinct practices across fashion, hair design, jewellery, object design, illustration and animation, by makers with roots across the wider Caribbean, including Suriname. The exhibition resists the expectation that bringing makers from the region together must result in a singular story about cultural identity.
Inspired by Édouard Glissant’s archipelagic thought, we look to the archipelago as a model for being in relation: connected without having to become the same.
Between our different shores lies water, an element that both separates and connects, carrying histories, memory and movement between us.
Situated within Amsterdam’s Gouden Bocht, a place deeply intertwined with colonial history, we present our work at Stadssalon. Here, we reclaim space for our practices, perspectives and stories on our own terms.
