Imagine a time when everything you owned from undergarments to table linens had to be handmade, there were no shops to buy your clothes from. Animals and plants, flax and sheep wool specifically, were most commonly used during this time to make these items. This class is the fourth of our Sheepy Series where you will learn this age old process from start to finish. Learn how to clean fleece, prepare it for spinning, spin on a drop spindle first and then on a spinning wheel. Learn how to dye the this beautiful fiber using natural dyes over an open fire. With these dyed fibers you can learn to warp a loom and weave items.
Experience the sense of pride, accomplishment, and the tugging of the past by joining us in this endeavour.
In this class learn the process of dying yarn.
Here's what you can expect: You will dye 2 skeins of prepared and spun fiber as well as learn the different plants and insect that can be used to create dyes.
Each student will go home with 2 skeins of local PA-milled yarn. Space is extremely limited so please sign up early. Send us a message to register!
$25/person
Additional skeins for dying may be purchased day of class.
