About this Event

The Royal Women’s Hospital offers group childbirth education for first-time public patients receiving pregnancy care and giving birth at the Women’s (Victoria).

These Childbirth and Early Parenting classes are an optional extra to your usual hospital care. Places are limited and not guaranteed.

This is an onsite onsite one day program, that provides a condensed version of key childbirth & early parenting topics.

Across the day an experienced midwife will cover key topics such as:

· Signs of labour and when to come to hospital

· What to expect during labour and birth

· How your support person can help in labour

· Practical ways to cope during labour

· Pain relief options

· Medical help that may be needed during birth

· Breastfeeding basics

· Safe sleeping and settling

· Communicating with your baby

· Community supports for your family

Booking tips

· Places are limited—book as early as you can.

· Try to finish the program by 38 weeks of pregnancy.

· Book using the pregnant person’s name. The ticket includes a partner or support person.

· You must provide your Royal Women’s Hospital (Victoria) Medical Record Number (MRN). We will confirm you are booked to have your baby at the Women’s (Victoria).

· At the start of each month, classes starting about three months ahead are added.

· Eventbrite will send a confirmation email after you book.

Payments and refunds

Each family can book one ticket. The ticket covers the pregnant person and one partner or support person.

If you book more than one ticket, our admin team will contact you or cancel the extra booking(s).

If your pregnancy care is transferred to another hospital or provider, you are no longer eligible to attend. Please cancel your booking—otherwise our admin team will cancel it.

Medicare card ticket (free) – available if the pregnant person:

  • is booked to give birth as a first-time public patient at the Women’s Hospital (Victoria)
  • has a valid Medicare card (or is eligible for reciprocal rights)

Patients receiving private care through the Women’s are not eligible to attend.

Medicare-ineligible ticket ($450.00) – applies if the person:

  • is booked to give birth as a Medicare-ineligible patient at the Women’s Hospital (Victoria)

This fee is refundable if you cancel at least one week before the first class. Some private health funds may offer a rebate—please check with your fund.

Need to cancel or reschedule?

· If your care is transferred to another hospital or provider, you must cancel your ticket.

· To reschedule, cancel your booking on the Eventbrite website and then book another course. Please cancel so someone else can take your place.
