An onsite, one-day group program for First Nation families who are birthing at the Royal Women's Hospital, Parkville . Times 09.30 am-4pm.
About this Event

Royal Women’s Hospital in Parkville, provides childbirth and early parenting education, specificaly for those or their partner, who identify as being part of the First Nations community. This is offered for those having their first baby and birthing at the Royal Women's Hospital, Parkville.

Facilitated by a midwife who proudly identifies as part of the First Nations community.

The one-day program will attempt to cover a specific range of topics.

For example:

  • Safe Community Connection
  • Health care Rights/Culturaly safe care
  • Progress of labour and birth
  • Support in labour
  • Practical coping methods during labour
  • Medical options for pain management
  • Medical assistance for birth
  • Communicating with your baby
  • Understanding breastfeeding
  • Navigating early parenting challenges
  • Community supports

If you are part of the First Nations community and book into this program, you do not need to attend another chidlbirth education program with the Women's.

Booking tips:

You or your partner must identify as part of the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community to be eligible for this program.

· Places are limited so book your spot as soon as possible.

· These programs will be conducted 3-4 times per year.

· Use the name of the pregnant person when you book.

· You must provide your Royal Womens Hospital, Melbourne Medical Record Number, as we will check that you are booked to have your baby at the Women’s.

· A confirmation email will be sent by Eventbrite after booking.

Payments and Refunds

ONE ticket is valid for the pregnant person and their immediate support circle.

Cost: If the pregnant person holds a Medicare Card: Ticket - Free

  • when that person is booked to birth as a public patient at the Womens hospital
  • has a valid Medicare card (or eligible for reciprical rights)

Cost: If the pregnant person does not have a Medicare Card : Ticket - $450.00 :

  • Such as, when that person is booked to birth as a private patient at the Womens hospital or has no valid Medicare Card or reciprical rights.

Any fee is refundable if you cancel at least one week prior to the first class. Some private health funds may provide a rebate for the program, however, it is up to the participant to check with their own health fund.

Need to cancel ?

· If you need to cancel, please CANCEL your booking on your Eventbrite page/website. PLEASE remember to cancel to allow somebody else to take your spot.

· As this program will be held 3-4 times per year, if you cancel, or are unable to attend, we may not be able to offer you another place in another program.
