About this Event

Shoreham Port is host to a growing industrial cluster, a traffic study undertaken in 2021 recorded 769 HGV movements during a weekday and 182 at weekends. Many of these vehicles move through local communities as they convey cargo to and from the Port. The introduction of e-HGVs has the potential to reduce noise and improve air quality through the reduction of reliance on diesel. The Port has recently invested in the area's first e-HGV charging points and the first truck arrives in June. Our modelling suggests that expansion of e-HGV usage will significantly increase the level of power required on site, more than is available from the local grid. This presentation outlines our proposals to expand our existing onshore wind farm to enable charging of more e-HGVs through locally produced renewable energy. Hear from the team behind the project and how they are working with communities to make a positive difference to local air quality.

Shoreham Port is a thriving Trust Port in Sussex, England, with excellent infrastructure, facilities, and customer service. Founded in 1760, our purpose today remains to keep ‘improving our Trust Port for everyone.’ We offer a full range of services aligned to cargo shipping, fishing, and leisure berthing, alongside an extensive commercial property portfolio. Certified as an EcoPort since 2013, we are amongst the most sustainable ports in the UK.

Meet your speaker

Anthony Bennett MSc, Engineering Project Manager, Shoreham Port

Following a successful career as an Officer in the Royal Navy, Anthony joined Shoreham Port in April 2024 to project manage the improved and expanded, 51 berth fishing marina at Fishersgate. This was followed by the installation of 10 shoreside electrical points to allow the large fishing vessels using the Port to ‘plug in’ when alongside and reduce their reliance on fossil fuels to maintain on board services. Over the past year, Anthony has been developing the Port's proposal for further expansion of the current on shore wind production.
