Oil Painting for Beginners Four Week Course
About this Event
Oil Painting for Beginners Four Week Course with Ed Heron
Would you like to try oil painting, but feel unsure where to start?
This friendly four-week course is designed for adults who are new to oil painting, returning after a long break, or feeling nervous about getting started. Working in a small group at Ed Heron’s studio at Banks Mill in Derby, you’ll be introduced to the basic materials, techniques and processes involved in painting with oils.
Across the four weeks, we’ll look at:
- what materials you need and how to use them
- brushes, surfaces, palettes and basic studio setup
- colour mixing and paint handling
- how to begin a painting without feeling overwhelmed
- simple composition and planning
- building confidence through practical exercises and guided painting time
Each session will include demonstration, practical exercises, individual guidance and time to paint. The aim is not to produce a perfect finished artwork, but to understand how oil paint behaves, gain confidence with the materials, and enjoy the process of making.
This course is suitable for complete beginners, rusty returners, and anyone who would like a calm, encouraging introduction to oil painting.
The group will be small, with a maximum of 6 places, so there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and receive individual support.
Location: Ed Heron Studio, Banks Mill Studios, Derby
Length: 4 weeks
Session length: 2 hours each week
Suitable for: Adults, beginners and returners
Group size: Maximum 6 people
Please wear clothes you do not mind getting paint on.
