As Albert Bierstadt wrote, “Man is so fortunate to dwell in this American Garden of Eden. The artist ought to tell his portion of history as well as the writer; a combination of both will assuredly render it more complete.”
Many of the artists in SAMA's collection of American Art were as good with a pen as they were with a paintbrush. As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, we will look at works in our collection with the artists’ own words regarding their artistic practice and their place in American history.
Off the Wall is a curated tour series that explores special topics across SAMA’s collections. Each session is developed and facilitated by passionate docents who can’t wait to share the stories behind SAMA’s most captivating artworks and hidden gems.
To ensure an optimal experience, Off the Wall tours are limited to 25 participants. Places are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Please check in at the front desk to secure your place on the tour.
