We're delighted to present Dr Jenny Visser who will talk to us about the prevention and treatment of hypothermia.
In this talk, Dr Visser will review hypothermia; why it occurs, recognising early symptoms, prevention and management.
Hypothermia is a risk for anyone venturing in the outdoors. Even if you're staying below the snow-line, New Zealand conditions of wind and rain can make hypothermia a possibility for any trip. Understanding prevention, signs and symptoms can go a long way in making sure your adventure stays in type 1 and 2 fun.
A bit about our speaker:
Dr Jenny Visser BSc, MBChB, FRNZCGP, MTravMed, Fellow International Society of Travel Medicine.
Jenny splits her time between teaching and clinical travel medicine. She particularly enjoys expedition medicine having worked in Antarctica, at a high-altitude rescue post in Nepal, in rural Bougainville and as doctor on treks to Kilimanjaro, China and Fiji. She enjoys outdoor activities including tramping and mountain biking. She has been a medical advisor for NZ Land Search & Rescue for many years.
Jenny is the lead academic for Travel Medicine Postgraduate Studies at the University of Otago, New Zealand. The qualifications are designed to equip doctors, nurses, nurse
practitioners and pharmacist with the skills they need to deliver comprehensive up to date pre and post travel care, including expedition medicine.
As a reminder our section nights are open to anyone, not just club members. If you know anyone who could benefit from this talk feel free to bring them along!
As ever, this talk will include pizza. See you there!
