In this seven week course, upskill your musical improv skills for the stage. Learn simple song structures and refine your approach to rhythm and melody to create banging tunes and heartfelt harmony on the spot.
This course runs 7-9pm on Wednesday nights for seven weeks from July 1st to August 12th with a performance opportunity on the weekend of the final workshop (Details TBC).
Workshops take place at the new Toi Aro community space at 3 Market Lane.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
LIA KELLY is a theatre-maker and musician based in Pōneke. She is an established director, actor, improviser and musician with over a decade of professional work under her belt. She created and directed One Night Band which won 'Most Original Production' at the Wellington Theatre Awards 2023, and her Musical Comedy show Bug Songs not Love Songs won the "Momentous Music" award at NZ Fringe 2026.

PopRox firmly believes that improv is for everyone, especially when it comes to sharing skills and knowledge. So we're offering "the stand-by list" for all our workshops in 2026. We'll giveaway any spots remaining one week before this course, on a first-come-first-serve basis. No need to provide a reason, no questions asked. If the entry fee is a barrier for you to come along, then simply email [email protected] and we'll pop you on the SBL. Everyone on the list will be notified whether there was a place available for them at least 5 days before the course begins.
