Intimate circles of SEND parents, meeting for 8 weeks (plus an initial 1:1) to find connection and support to improve mental wellbeing.
About this Event

A parent carer nurture group running at Harcliffe Children's Centre on Wednesday mornings 10.00-11.30m.

This group is for parents of children with additional needs (diagnosed or undiagnosed) of any age.

The journey of parenting a neurodivergent or disabled child can be lonely, but by coming together with others who get it we can find strength, wisdom and the relief of feeling understood.

Wednesday 21st January 1:1 session by Zoom

We gather parent carers into small supportive communities called nurture groups. But before we start each nurture group we have an initial 30 minute 1:1 session with each person on the evening of 21st January between 7-9pm. Please keep this evening free and your time slot will be booked early in the new year.

Wednesday 28th January

Following your 1:1 from the previous week, we meet as a group on 28th January at the children's centre for 8 facilitated sessions (9 weeks in total with a break for half term. Once the course has finished, the group can continue as they wish - meeting up, attending our monthly gatherings, supporting each other via WhatsApp, or even getting together with their kids.

What happens at a parent carer nurture group?
  • Meet the same parents each week
  • Share experiences
  • Explore a different theme each session
  • Facilitated by a therapist and a community worker (who is also a SEND parent) with
extensive experience working with SEND parent carers
  • Learn how to relate to difficult emotions with self-compassion, so they can work with us rather than against us
  • Nurture activities such as guided relaxations

Feedback from previous participants

'Poppy and Naomi are amazing. I love them! We all laughed and cried our way through the sessions and learned a lot. If you are thinking of attending then do so! You won’t regret it!’

‘I have learned so much, more than I ever expected, and I’ve come away with an amazing group of friends who just ‘get it’

'100%, I am in a very different place on my journey now and feel a glimmer of hope for mine and my families future and knowing that it will be hard but we are not alone'

'Amazing hosts and wonderful Mum's who attended, the feeling of ultimate acceptance and understanding from all'

'What would I say to others? DO IT!!!! I have recommended this group to other parents that I know. I have gained so much from this and am so sad to see it end.'

'I would highly recommend the nurture group to help you feel more connected, understand all your complex emotions are valued and feel more control of the situation and your response to it.'

'Please do a Murmurations group...it's invaluable. It has helped make my considerable load feel a bit lighter.'

Suggested Donations
To keep these courses running, the suggested donation is £50 for the course, However we are happy to accept any amount according to what you can afford. We want our courses to be accessible to everyone.

Cancellations

Whilst this course is payment by donation, please be aware that it does cost us money to run and the places are very sought-after – we have waiting lists for each course. We would therefore ask that if you need to cancel, please give us as much notice as possible, ideally at least one week, so that we can have time to offer the place to another parent and meet with them for their 1:1. A refund will only be issued (minus the Eventbrite fee) if at least 7 days notice is given.
