Friday, November 15 – Notte Disco: A Night of Defiance and DiscoveryNotte Disco celebrates the bold and flamboyant roots of Italo Disco, Hi-NRG, and Electroclash—genres that shaped the modern dancefloor, creating spaces for the LGBTQI+ community to find expression and freedom. The glamour of Italo Disco and the high-energy beats of Hi-NRG laid the groundwork for a more inclusive dance culture, while Electroclash injected indie sensibilities and punk’s DIY attitude into the electronic scene, bridging the gap between rock and rave for the first time.
As DJ Hell once said, “Electroclash brought punk’s spirit to the decks, and suddenly the club wasn’t just a place to dance but a place to be yourself.” This spirit gave rise to iconic nights like Trash and artists like Erol Alkan, who famously merged rock’s rawness with house and techno. Not only was it an escape but a journey that let indie kids trace electronic music’s lineage back to those on the margins of society in the US—such as Black, Latino, and queer communities—who came together to create something unique and lay the foundations of the soulful origins of house and techno.
Tonight, we’ll also explore Ghetto Tech and Body Music, two high-energy genres that brought an intense, rhythmic edge to the dancefloor. Ghetto Tech, born in Detroit, fused techno’s raw energy with rapid beats and hip-hop influences, creating a style with relentless pace. As Detroit legend DJ Assault put it, “Ghetto Tech is about pushing limits and keeping it raw.” Meanwhile, Body Music, pioneered by bands like D.A.F. (Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft), delivered primal, industrial beats with minimalist power, intensifying the underground dance scene.
Join us as we honor this legacy with a night where dance meets rebellion, blending everything from Italo’s neon-lit synths to the edgy pulse of Ghetto Tech and Body Music. This is Notte Disco at its finest—a celebration of electronic music’s diversity, resilience, and enduring power.
