After 'Anam the nameless', the last interview with Tiziano Terzani, director Mario Zanot explores the life of the great journalist and writer in a new documentary.
The film, which took two years to make, uses photos, historical footage, 3D animations, and motion graphics to tell Terzani’s story from childhood to death. Unpublished audio recordings feature Terzani’s own voice, recounting his life’s significant moments with determination and imagination.
Narrator Monica Guerritore connects the chapters of this journey, blending funny anecdotes with dramatic moments and intertwining Terzani’s private life with historical events he witnessed. Terzani reflects critically on his mistakes and disillusions, such as the failure of revolutions he believed in, including Cambodia’s under Pol Pot.
Despite his illness, Terzani continued to seek peace after September 11. He concludes that the true master is within us and emphasizes hope, especially for young people, encouraging them to invent their own lives: “The doors are not closed, the world is not barred, and the places are not already taken by others.”

From Firenze, war correspondent, and one of the most internationally renowned journalists, Terzani was also one of Italy’s best-selling authors, with over 2,500,000 copies sold. A profound connoisseur of Asia, he was a correspondent for the German weekly Der Spiegel for over 25 years and collaborated with Corriere della Sera, l’Espresso, and la Repubblica.
Mario Zanot
Director, screenwriter, and journalist, he collaborated as a visual effects supervisor with Giuseppe Tornatore (Baarìa, La migliore offerta, La corrispondenza) and Nanni Moretti (Habemus Papam), and in 2013 he won the David di Donatello for Best Visual Effects for Diaz, don’t clean up this blood by Daniele Vicari. In 2004, he directed the film Anam il senzanome, the last interview with Tiziano Terzani, a true spiritual testament of the writer.
