Nicer Tuesdays: September
About this Event
Mona Chalabi, Arsh Raziuddin, Tala Schlossberg and Special Offer: Tickets now available for September’s Nicer Tuesdays in New York!
Join us for our third Nicer Tuesdays event of the year in New York, where you can catch brilliant talks about data driven illustration, art direction, experimental animation and the Big Apple’s own World Cup watching party identity.
It’s Summer in New York and there’s no better place to cool off than the SVA Theatre… where our next Nicer Tuesdays will be taking place! Bringing yet another brilliant line-up of speakers back to the venue, our next event will take place on 15 September 2026.
On the night you can expect to hear talks from Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and illustrator Mona Chalabi whose work has been featured in The New Yorker, The Guardian and on platforms such as Netflix, NPR, the BBC and National Geographic. Mona will be joining our US editor at large, Elizabeth Goodspeed on stage for a Q&A on her newest book Ten Lives: How What We Have Shapes Who We Are, which is a unique blend of memoir, reportage and data visualisation. As well as that, graphic designer and illustrator Arsh Raziuddin will be taking to the New York Nicer Tuesdays stage to run the crowd through her collaboration with Mayor Mamdani’s City Hall for New York City’s incredible new World Cup identity.
American animator and artist Tala Schlossberg will also be taking to the mic at our NYC event in September – known for her unique video collages and experimental techniques for animation and sound design which have exhibited in Paris, Beijing, Madrid and New York, the artist will be talking about her creative journey from being on The New York Times Opinion video team for three years to animating her independent miniseriesYou Have Probably Never Heard of Hornita Calypso. Last but certainly not least, we will have the founder of New York based design studio Special Offer joining us to give the Nicer Tuesday’s crowd a peek into the creative process behind the studio’s culture defining projects in music, fashion, film and TV.
The event will take place on Tuesday 15 September at the School of Visual Arts Theatre in Chelsea. Doors will open at 6:30 pm and the talks will begin around 7pm. The full address is SVA Theatre, 333 West 23rd Street, New York, NY10011. It’s a seated event, so get there early to ensure a seat and pick up a drink beforehand!
Mona Chalabi
Mona Chalabi is a multi award-winning illustrator who has earned a Pulitzer Prize, fellowships at the British Science Association and Royal Society for the Arts as well as an Emmy nomination! The boundary-pushing journalist, illustrator, and writer uses data as the foundation of her work and her newest book, published by Penguin: Ten Lives: How What We Have Shapes Who We Are, is no different. A unique blend of memoir, reportage and data visualisation, Mona will be joining us to talk about following the financial journeys of 10 different people from the United States over a five-year period to represent how wealth, class and income inequality shapes their daily lives.
Arsh Raziuddin
The wonderful graphic designer and illustrator Arsh Raziuddin (who we interviewed very recently over at It’s Nice That) will be letting the Nicer Tuesdays crowd in on her collaboration with Zohran Mamdani’s City Hall for New York City’s incredible World Cup identity. The creative will be taking us behind the scenes on the inspirations that went into the graphic design project and giving us an insight into how she built a visual system that made sure that New York City felt the impact of global football whilst recognising and punctuating the USA’s efforts in the tournament with Mamdan’s creative direction.
Tala Schlossberg
American animator and experimental artist Tala Schlossberg will be taking the mic at our next New York event to give us an insight into the creative practice she’s built to date, with a focus on her animated collages and unique video collections that have been exhibited worldwide in Paris, Beijing, Madrid and New York. The artist will be talking about her creative journey from being on The New York Times Opinion video team for three years to animating her independent miniseries You Have Probably Never Heard of Hornita Calypso.
Special Offer
If you don’t know Special Offer by name (where have you been?) you’ll certainly know the studio by its album design for Charlie XCX’s brat that defined the summer of 2024. Founder of the New York-based art direction and design studio Brent David Freany will be joining us to talk us through the creative approach that has led the studio to shape a range of defining cultural projects in recent years. With an ethos of working closely with collaborators it has a strong shared interest with, Special Offer has a track record of working with big names in music, fashion, film and TV – Brent will be giving the New York Nicer Tuesday’s audience an insight into just how the interests, intrigues and idiosyncrasies of the studio are shaping this unique output.
Timings for the evening: doors open at 6.30pm and the talks will begin around 7pm.
