This class will take you and your canine partner on the scent work journey of Handler Discrimination (HD). HD is a stand alone element in Scent Work . A dog team moves up through the skill levels however in the same as the other odor elements.
In the Novice HD Search, you search for a single handler odor bearing cotton sock or glove that is inaccessible and in a closed container at ground level while discriminating against a box containing a cloth article set with the Judges’ “fragrance” amongst a total of ten identical containers. The remaining eight containers are negative.
Once you and your canine partner have clarity in AKC Novice HD there is a step up in the skills required to locate the handler’s odor. The complexity builds as the searches expand to searching for an odor bearing cotton ball or cotton swab versus the Judges odor in an Interior room (Advanced level), an exterior search (Excellent level), and locating three handler hides scented with your handler odor “Eau de you!”, across two of the following different elements (Container/Interior and/or Exterior) while disregarding the Judge’s and another individuals odor source. In all of these stepped up levels, the odor is hidden accessible, but not visible and placed 24 inches high or less .
We will “walk” you and your canine partner up the skills ladder, building confidence and your dog’s desire to find the unique amalgam odor that makes you – You! This class will also prepare you to enjoy and finesse not only AKC HD but explore using these skills in a myriad of other games and sports
(Tracking, Utility, Article Find ) etc.
