Please join us for this really fun workshop! In this class, students will have the opportunity to create a sturdy small gathering basket using the wet felting process with coarser wool breeds, as well as a fairly thick layout. Class goes over the entire wet felting process through instruction and demonstration: wool types, layout and design using a resist, felting, and fulling. Whether you are new to wet felting, or experienced, this is a fun, very useful project to complete. Expect to get a workout in the process, due to the rolling and fulling stages that require plenty of upper body movement. The wool to be used is undyed and natural, and examples will be provided. Though driftwood will be available for handles, students are welcome to bring their own special pieces to incorporate if desired. Finished basket will have an approximately 8” diameter.

Sam Coon is a self-taught fiber artist, and has been making felt since being introduced to both needle felting and wet felting in 2009.
Much of her inspiration is gleaned from the natural environment, particularly patterns, colors, and shapes. From there, various types of items are created including vessels, wall art pieces, sculptures, jewelry, and wearable felted items that are nuno felted. In these art forms, she uses wool fibers that have not been spun or woven, such as Merino or Corriedale. In many instances, fabric, silk and viscose fibers are incorporated to change the textural quality of the felt and for added dimension.
What particularly stands out the most to her, when working with wool to make felt, is that the sculptural qualities of wool are impressive, making creative possibilities seemingly endless.
Along with working in the studio, she also regularly teaches needle and wet felting classes at varying locations and age groups.
This workshop is generously co-sponsored by Camden Riverhouse Hotel.
