Join us on Sat. & Sun., Oct. 24 & 25, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. for a two-day workshop at Coronado Historic Site in Bernalillo, New Mexico, with artist and site ranger Robert Silas who will showcase a variety of natural materials used in the Southwest to create pottery and paints.
On Saturday, each student will receive two unfired tiles that they will paint using natural pigments. Robert will be coaching and assisting throughout the day. Painting must be finished by the end of day or taken home to be completed before Sunday’s workshop. On Sunday, Robert will lead a natural firing in an outdoor fire pit. Participants will get to see how natural firing is performed and watch as their tiles solidify. After removal and cooling, participants may take home their finished pieces. Students will be provided with all necessary art materials but are expected to bring their own lunches and clean up their work areas when finished.
This program is limited to 10 people and costs $100 for FCJHS members and $125 for non-members. Register online at https://www.coronadojemezfriends.org/site-activities.
