Poetry has a unique ability to surprise, enchant and help us see the world in new ways. In this welcoming and interactive session, we'll explore poems that inspire a sense of wonder, share favourite poems, and discover how poetry can connect us to each other and the world around us.
Ansuya will bring a selection of poems to spark discussion and reflection, and participants are warmly invited to bring along a poem they love. Whether it's a well-known classic, a recent discovery, or a personal favourite, we'd love to hear the poems that have stayed with you and why they matter.
No previous poetry knowledge is needed. Whether you're a regular reader of poetry or simply curious to discover more, come along for a relaxed afternoon of reading, sharing and conversation.
About Ansuya Patel:
Ansuya is a prize-winning poet. Her debut poetry collection “Wolves at My Door” was published at the end of 2025. Her poems have been shortlisted for the Alpine, Bridport and Aurora Prize, highly commended at Erbacce. Her work has been published widely, most recently in Allegro, Anthropocene, Ink Sweat and Tears, Rattle, Renard, Wildfire Words and elsewhere.
National Poetry Day is the biggest mass celebration of poetry in the UK.
It’s a chance for all of us to share in the pleasure of poetry. You’ll see it everywhere, from schools and libraries to cultural venues and across the national media. With 1.5 million people participating on the day, there’s loads of ways to get involved!
